Why work as Post Doctoral Fellow II with Main Line Health?
Make an Impact!
This position is available immediately in the lab of Scott Dessain, M.D., Ph.D., at the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research. The Dessain laboratory studies the human immune response to mucosal pathogens. The Lab has developed novel tools for delivery of mucosal antigens using the edible blue-green algae, spirulina (Arthrospira platensis). This role studies poliovirus antigens as a model for inducing IgA immunity against enteroviruses. The role will investigate the expression and antigenic structure of viral proteins expressed in spirulina and will test their ability to induce neutralizing mucosal IgA responses in vivo. This research will establish a safe and effective strategy for control of poliovirus as well as a generalizable approach to replacing injected and live virus immunizations against a diversity of mucosal pathogens.
